- The
intonation is set by sliding the bridge forward or backward on the banjo
head. Why do we need to do this. If the bridge is in the correct place the
all the notes on the banjo will be in tune. If the bridge is not in the
correct place then the notes will get out of tune as you fret up the neck.
- We use a tuner to set the bridge in the correct place.
- 1. Tune the
banjo
- 2. Fret the
banjo at the 12 fret then check the tuning. if the note is out of pitch then
the bridge needs to be moved.
- 3. If the
note on the 12th fret is flat, then slide the bridge toward the neck about
1/16 of an inch. repeat steps one and 2 until both notes are in tune.
- 4. If the
note on the 12th fret is sharp, slide the bridge toward the Tail piece about
1/16 of an inch. repeat steps one and 2 until both notes are in tune.
- 5. Once the
bridge is in the correct place then take a pencil and mark the back side of
the bridge. This will let you know if the bridge has moved.
