Two Part-Song Chord Patterns

Welcome to Level III

This is very basic, a beginning to get one started on the road to understanding bluegrass song construction. This Section will attempt to explain how songs are patterns of repeating sets of chords. Also how to insert bluegrass banjo licks into the proper chords of a repeating chord pattern. Keep in mind this is a very basic view.

Here's a (G Scale) melody practice using the 1st string as a drone.

A Bluegrass song can be broken down into parts. Such as "intro (Body Tag) Ending". A Bluegrass banjo picker needs a good understanding of this so he or she can improvise.

Lets look at the body of the song. The Body of the song contains the melody the body of the song generally contains two parts. (#1the Verse and  #2the chorus) This is the part of the song that requires you to create your version of the melody.

Lets look at the tag. The tag serves the same purpose as a period in a sentence. It lets the rest of the pickers know that you finished the verse or chorus.

Lets look at the ending
