Rhythm, means the change of finger position and note speed that give a song its melody. Tablature tells us the speed with which to play each note by using the staff and flag symbols.
For now, we will only use 1/8 and 1/16 notes. As we progress, we look at notes that are played much faster and slower.
Tab notes below are grouped together by 1/4 note chunks 1/8 + 1/8 =1/4. An 1/8 notes last twice as long as a 1/16 notes. Why? Because it takes two 1/16 to make 1/8. So when you see one flag on a staff it means slow those plucks down. The notes below are all played evenly every time you tap your foot.
Tab notes below are grouped together by 1/4 note chunks also . If you take the 4 notes below and add them up (1/16 * 4 ) you get 1/4 and 1/4 notes are what sets the speed of the song. When you listen to a song and your foot starts tapping its taping to the 1/4 note of the song. The notes below are all played evenly every time you tap your foot.
